Background
Bought my Supra new in 88 (yes Im that old). Street
raced it with manual boost controller/crimp-bent exhaust
for years. Ran up to boost cut at 12psi. Very strong at
that time. Mustang / Camero / Corvette killer. Been auotcrossing
it off and on for years. Began real upgrades with in last
2 years. Dynoed 275RWHP/336RWTQ at 15psi on pump gas up
in Atlanta (05/02) with lexus AFM, 550s, stock CT-26, Spearco
IC, stock IC Pipes, stock elbow, crimp bent 2.5 exhaust.
The car was running PIG RICH. The exhaust was choking the
motor. Got a 3 elbow and 3 GReddy exhaust from
Jeff Tamulis along with a AFC. Really let the motor start
to run. Pulled to redline felt strong again. Ordered a SS
Stage 3 turbo and spun a rod bearing just after putting
it on (just before Powerfest 2002!). Rebuilt motor as below
and broke it in prior to putting SS back on. Put on the
SS turbo and went to Atlanta for tuning/dyno (06/03).
Turbo
Supra Sport Stage 3 with polished compressor housing
Bottom
End
Stock crank (micd & polished), stock rods (micd,
polished, shot peened), JE 20 over pistons., Forenza AL
flywheel, bottom end balanced, case machined flat.
Head
NEW stock head (3 angle valve job) on a HKS 1.2mm MHG
Intake
Stock intake manifold, HKS upper pipe, custom 2.5
mandrel bent IC hardpipes, Spearco IC, GReddy type S BOV
Exhaust
3 SS custom elbow, 3 test pipe, 3 GReddy
catback exhaust
Fuel
550 injectors (RX7 II), SX AFPR, Walbro GSS341 HP pump,
braided line through out
Drivetrain
Auto to Manual conversion. Clutch is a RPS Max #3200 special
with sprung hub, SS short shifter, Moblie 1 Synthetic
Suspension
Suspension Tech springs and Swayaway swaybars, Tokiko struts,
MKIV 17 polished rims, 10mm wheel spacers, (MKIV 16
with autoX tires for race day), Front tower brace, (Rear
tower brace on the shelf)
Electronics
Profec A boost controller, Apexi Super AFC (got a Apexi
AVC-R on the shelf)
Interior
Highly modified (to fit) LoTek A piller with HKS EGT and
Boost gauges, Glove box with Autometer A/F, Fuel pressure,
Oil pressure and Water temp gauges. JVC CD/MP3 head unit.
Exterior
Stock exterior with crappy paint job and MKIV 17 wheels.
Old school 88 with meaty treads.
Writeup
I have done almost all the work on my car. I rebuilt this
motor with machine work done at Billys here in Dothan.
I constructed the IC hardpipes but had them welding at a
local shop. I did all the upgrades otherwise and also the
auto to manual conversion. I didnt do the crappy paint
job. I had it done while still in school (had to do something
because the hood had gotten so bad)
Future
plans
Im just enjoying the moment for now. Didn't expect 400RWHP
at this time. Ill probably go bigger in the future, but
this will require some $$ outlay for a new manifold turbo
and such. It may be a while before I start into that.
