Background
The car was purchased in March of 1996 with 16,000 miles. Soon after, the car received a GReddy 70mm twin tip exhaust that was on my now totaled 87 naturally aspirated Supra. That summer, the car received a GReddy PRofec boost controller and an old school Apex'i turbo timer. The car was driver for a few years in this condition.

In the spring of 98, the car received a Lexus air flow meter, and RC racing 550cc injectors. This was a great improvement which allowed boost beyond 12psi on the factory supplied turbo. Some tuning with an Apex'i AFC also yielded decent gains. Shortly after, a Spearco front mount Intercooler was added, in conjunction with an HKS SSBOV mounted on the outlet pipe of the intercooler. This BOV, in addition to the stock BOV was a very reliable setup as I had no issues with stalling.

The car was mostly finished at this point except for the addition of an HKS TEMS controller, and an RPS stage 3 clutch.

In my senior year of school, I took a senior project class. What better time to rebuild a 7M and prep it for big power. I ordered a Japanese engine from SOKO importers. New factory bearings and rings were installed on some stock pistons. I sent the pistons out to HPC to have their Thermal barrier applied to the piston tops, and solid dry film applied to the piston skirts to aid in oil retention. The head had a valve job, and machined. The block was also machined, honed, align honed. The rods were all shot peened and weight matched as well as the entire rotating assembly being balanced. This yielded a solid foundation to build upon.

Assembly was done by myself over a month period. The block was hand lapped along with the head. This was in preparation of the GReddy 1.5mm metal head gasket.

An HKS cast manifold was purchased along with a TS04 ball bearing turbo. Mating these two together proved to a bit more than what I had accounted for, so the entire turbo system was ditched in favor of an RPS header with the same TS04. Due to the configuration of the header and turbo, I opted to use an HKS VPC. This lessened the plumbing nightmare in addition to letting the car breath very deep. This also moved fuel cut pretty high up. Runs of 29 psi are possible with the VPC.

September of 2000 is when we dropped the motor in with the stock turbo to ensure everything we fine before the TS04 was put on. A Walbro fuel pump, GReddy EGT gauge, and GReddy fuel pressure gauge was also added in hopes of keeping the motor together. The motor was driven for about 6 months before the TS04 was put on.

Writeup
I feel the car drives just as well as any of the CT-26 upgrades on the market. There is plenty of low end torque for around town driving without the need of putting the accelerator down. Once the car passes four thousand revolutions per minute, that’s when the driver can tell this isn’t a CT-26 based car. Dyno sheets show a nice jump at around 3800 revs that gains 300 pounds of torque in less than 500 rpms. Almost like turning on a switch.

Future plans
67mm turbo, dual in tank Walbro pumps, v2.0 Apex'i AFC, 720cc injectors
